Osaka Kiryuu is a high school in Osaka that have one of the stronger baseball teams in the series.

They were the runner-up of the 88th Summer Nationals and are known as the strongest batters in the country.

They have qualified once again for the 89th Summer Nationals but lost to Seihou High in the second round.

Osaka Kiryuu is based off of Osaka Touin (大阪桐蔭高等学校). They came upon the Koushien scene back in 1991 where they made their first Haru and Natsu Koushien tournaments, winning the Natsu tournament over then powerhouse Okinawa Suisan 13-8.

Their real run has started since 2008 and hasn't really stopped.

From the period of 2008-2019 (24 total Koushien tournaments as 2020 was cancelled due to the pandemic), they have qualified for 13 of them. Of those 13 appearances, they have won it all 7 times. This includes taking the Haru-Natsu sweep in 2012 and 2018. That means you can almost literally flip a coin as to whether they'll appear at Koushien, and then flip a coin again to see if they win it all.

Driving the point home, in those 13 appearances, they've never failed to win a game. They only exited after winning just 1 game 3 times. Their record during this run is 48-6, a winning percentage just a shade under 89%.

Looking over the team over this span is kantoku (coach) Nishitani Kouichi (西谷 浩一), whose likeness is very similar to the series.
