The Resilient Second-String
The Kings' Roar
Demon Child is episode 29 of the Diamond no Ace Anime series Season 2. The Episode follows the manga story line from second half of Chapter 322 to Chapter 325.
The intra-squad game continues. Kataoka's former coach, Sakaki Eijirou arrives and observes the team. He joins Haruno and Club President Oota in the staff room and tells the story of Kataoka when he was just 15 years old and was then called "Demon Child".
As the intra-squad continue, club President Oota is worried that it's as if Kataoka is preparing to leave the team thus, giving Ochiai a place to communicate with the team through the intra-squad. A visitor whose name is Sakaki Eijirou arrives, enters the staff room, surprising Oota. Sakaki was Seidou's coach before Kataoka and is currently the head coach at Hosei University.
On the field, Sawamura does a good job holding the first stringers to one run and Furuya does the same to the second-stringers. Sakaki remarks that with two different pitchers, Kataoka must be having fun training them, and that he wouldn't have known Kataoka to grow up a great coach, having been known as "Demon Child" in the past. In a flashback, when Kataoka was just fifteen, he was an uncontrollable brat and was disliked by his upper class men. However, he hated to lose and had an unyielding spirit. Due to this, Coach Sakaki entrusted the "ace" number to him. Despite his teammates not acknowledging him at first, Kataoka changed his attitude and eventually gained the trust of the team, and carried them to the finals of Summer Nationals.
Back to the intra-squad, Kaneda replaces Sawamura on top of the sixth. With a hit from Tojou, Team A scores their second run. During Team A's defense at the bottom, Furuya is replaced by Kawakami. Kawakami throws the sinker but is hit. Now with two outs, runner on second, and Nakata at bat, Miyuki once again calls for the sinker. Kawakami throws the breaking ball successfully for the out.
At the end of the intra-squad, team A won with 7 runs against Team B's 2 runs. Sakaki informs Kataoka that he'll be returning to High School baseball and will be coaching Yura Engineering High School in West Tokyo. He tells Kataoka not to run away surprising the latter.
