Chris, to the Field! (Kurisu Shutsujin!, クリス出陣) is Episode 11 of the Diamond no Ace Anime series. The Episode follows the storyline from Chapters 27 to 30 of the manga.

It’s the only match in which Sawamura and Chris forms a battery together. After that match the coach chooses two players to join the varsity team.

The opposing side is shocked that it’s a wild pitch. Seido’s side, though. They recognize the form. And the catcher can’t even see the throwing arm before the release. The catcher can’t catch the ball. In other words, both Chris and the coach made him that way. They taught him to hone his body and hone his form with that initially ridiculous looking towel drill.

Thanks to Sawamura, Chris has got another chance. After we’ve seen him these past four or five episodes struggling just to lift a weight with his injured shoulder, we get to see him behind the plate. For us, it’s the first time. But Seido knows his skills from before the injury and he’s probably the only catcher who can play alongside Sawamura right now. More importantly, Chris has that light back in his eye. He wants to play, regardless of whether he can or not.

Chris looks different now, he sounds different, and his demeanor is different. Remember back when Sawamura was pumping up the first years against the upperclassmen? Chris is playing the same role here and Seido plans to not give up a run with no outs and three on.

In just two pitches, Chris turned the game from no outs and three on into two outs and a runner on first and second. In the play, the second baseman jumped up and threw the ball to home and Chris sent a bullet to the right fielder, who was covering first base. And with the third pitch, he picks off a runner. Three pitches, three outs, and we learn firsthand what a catcher Chris is.
