Furuya no Ace?

Only three chapters of Act II have been released, but there is already a lot of discussion going on: Gets the main character too little attention? (again)

Showing Eijun screw up on his first pitch on his opening inning of Arc II while "glorifying" Furuya's success and thus overshadowing Sawamura's screen time is nothing new to Daiya no A fans.

Some Eijun-Fans are frustrated that he doesn't get enough screen time and fear that Terajima will drag Eijun down to the point of being the comic-relief sidekick of Furuya and Miyuki.

What do you think? Overreacting?

Does Eijun really not get enough screen time compared to other characters?

What are you talking about? As of April 2020 when you posted this, Sawamura is still the ace. Just because Furuya is pitching in one game doesn't mean Sawamura is not the ace.

I mean i can't help it if yall want to only see sawamura at his best. But I love the downfall aspect and it's better to have a lot of downfalls so when he rises it'll really be tearjerking and emotional. Furuya serves as a stepping stone for sawamura to fully overcome.

As for the main character issues, we can see that Daiya no Ace is about rivalry abt 2 mcs, like naruto and sasuke, but from sawamura's point of view. except they both are after one position, that is the ace. DnA is pretty much very realistic. like you dont get to be cool just coz you worked hard. irl we do have that someone who's better than us.

for people wondering why did sawamura f up his first game as the ace, i think it's necessary for a mistake/downfall on the early parts of the koshien, if he straight up does well, it can be a bit boring and lacking conflict. because as the story/match moves on there will be no more rooms for mistakes as this is probably daiya's final big plot? idk. if it goes to sawamura's third years it can take 20 years to finish which is unrealistic ( sawamura 1st year took 9 year). it's been 14 years since the series start, the author is 46. he basically has less than 10 years to wrap up the manga, he's older than most big title mangaka.

guess a lot of people aren't familiar with last generation's mangas, where the main character could fall in a slump for several episodes and recover. Ahita no Joe anyone? Sawamura crisis are the only elements that drive some tension in the plot. By the way I think this manga is deteriorating an the author is dragging the story as long as he can. A trend that ruined mangas with lot of potential like Kohinata Minoru, which I think got axed in the end forcing a silly happy ending. Matches are longer and longer with lots of "motivational" moments that start to pile up. Maybe I'm getting old but I wont read an "act 3".

It annoys me so much that Sawamura gets pushed aside- Im catching up on the anime right now and I just watched the practice game between the first string and the second string. They give Furuya way too much credit. Sawamura didn't throw four balls but his accomplishment learning the change up kind of got pushed away to the side? I don't really know how to describe it. Also Furuya let out more hits than Sawamura. I mean come on, it's a practice game against the second string- Hes the Ace for gods sake. Even Sawamura got a hit off from him. It may have been a fluke but still- Also in the manga, Sawamura has much more technics than Furuya. His pitching relyes on speed. And to be honest, if you practice batting fast balls with the batting machine a lot, it will be much easier to hit Furuyas balls. Sawamuras pitches however, will take a lot of time to get used to and there's a lot more variety to his pitches. Also Coach Ochiai pisses me off so much-

Honestly, I've dropped it because it really doesn't feel like Sawamura is the main character of the series. It's too focused on Furuya and every time Sawamura actually do good, sure they'll compliment him or don't pay to appreciate him. It frustrated me so much that people kept downgrading his efforts and skills so quick, then he goes back to not being able to do better. His progress and development is behind others. Sure, people think it's a "realistic aspect" but nothing has changed. No matter what he does, he just doesn't get enough credit for it either. They might as well do the series about Furuya since he has more screen time on the plays too and it feels that the characters, also audience focuses on him a lot more.

The post was a while ago now, but I still wanted to share my thoughts. :D

I hate and despise Furuya abysmally. From the first second he showed up, I already disliked him.

Then his obnoxious, self-centered character and the way too much screen time he has.

Sawamura is the Mc and I see only him as the protagonist, but in fact I think it's more that disgusting asshole Furuya, as often as he has screen time and is praised by everyone despite his mistakes, while Sawamura is punished for his mistakes.

Unlike Furuya, Sawa at least has a healthy character and ambition, but the way he's treated is bottom drawer.

Yeah, Sawa was hard for me to like at first too. His bubbly and loud character made me like him less - I generally don't like such loud characters. But it soon changed and I started to like him. Yes, he is also selfish, but at least his intentions are pure. He loves being a pitcher, worked to do it as well as he could, and gets "shut out" by the team. I hate to repeat myself, but:

If something didn't work out, he gets bitched out for it, while Furuya doesn't even get a damn announcement when he does something wrong. Sawamura is always the one who gets the stress when he does something wrong. And in season 3, when Furuya was replaced because he couldn't get anything done and was allowed to keep pitching even though he just couldn't do anything and they would have lost because of him, Sawamura had to save the team. He was good for that. Saved the team and was praised by everyone. I also hated Couch more than just for that. If Sawa had pitched first and played as badly as Furuya, he would have been kicked out after the 2nd foul. That was also one of the reasons why I 2x the anime aborted. Mainly because of Furuya. He was such a pain in the ass that I wished he would just drop dead.

I would have even been happy and in fact everyone in my circle of friends has the same opinion about Furuya. He is just disgusting.
